Q&A with Steve Dembowski, Milton Football Coach

What do you love most about your sport?

The best part of football is uniting a group of individuals from different backgrounds into a united team.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?

The greatest accomplishment I have been part of is building Milton HS into a consistently competitive program. When I took over in Milton the program needed a complete overhaul, everything from fundraising, equipment, schemes and attitude needed to be changed. I feel fortunate that everyone bought into my vision and we have seven great years, all winning seasons filled with great experiences for our players and families.

Where was your fundraising profit spent?

Fundraising has been a big part of providing a unique experience to our players. We use these funds to provide both the basic and extra items to make our program special. Some examples of items we have purchased are uniforms, practice gear, practice equipment, travel bags and it funds our annual banquet.

Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

My father is my greatest inspiration. He is not an athlete or but made an impact on many kids as a high school drama coach. I watched him connect with each of his students and always found a role for each one. Watching him motivate and build his cast has been the backbone of how I try to build my teams. I learned from him that every player is not going to be a star but they should feel proud that they provide value to the team.

Your favorite motivational quote:

“Seek not to become a person of success but a person of value. The more valuable your are, the more likely you are to gain success” - Albert Einstein
